About The Position

The Student Nurse functions as an integral member of a team of care providers on a patient care unit, who reflect a culture of cooperation, enthusiasm, and mutual respect. The team, consisting of the Registered Nurse, the Patient Care Associate (PCA), other clinical disciplines, and the Unit Clerical Associate (UCA) provides patient care and supportive services that are directed towards achievement of patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient's involvement in his/her own plan of care, improving service levels, reducing the length of hospitalization, and decreasing costs. Patients and their family will experience the benefits of patient focused care through the integrated skills of all care team members. The Student Nurse is responsible for providing a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities as supervised and directed by the Registered Nurse. Care is provided in collaboration with the patient, family, and other members of the patient focused care team. Overall responsibilities are to assist the team in meeting patient care needs.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled college/university nursing student
  • Nursing student enrolled in a CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) accredited nursing program
  • Completion of a nursing health assessment course or nursing clinical
  • Strong customer service, organizational and time management skills
  • Successful completion of a one-day student nurse training course required after hire.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a variety of direct and indirect patient care activities as supervised and directed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Collaborate with the patient, family, and other members of the patient focused care team.
  • Assist the team in meeting patient care needs.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service, strong organizational skills, and ability to work in a professional environment.
  • Work with and communicate effectively to direct activities to other students’ employees.
  • Represent the department and the university with the highest degree of integrity applying OSU mission and shared values.
