About The Position

This is a part-time Student Nurse Technician position in the Cardiothoracic ICU at Barnes Jewish Hospital. The role is for nursing students enrolled in an RN program who have completed a foundational nursing skills course. The CTICU specializes in post-operative care for cardiac, thoracic, and vascular patients, including those requiring ECMO, VAD, and transplants. The unit features a high acuity patient volume with low nurse-patient ratios, promoting safety and patient satisfaction. Patients are cared for by a multidisciplinary team utilizing evidence-based practices, advanced technology, and complex surgical procedures.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in an accredited RN program.
• Completed a foundational nursing skills course (fundamentals, foundations, or adult/peds health).
• Must be a May 2027 graduate or later.

Responsibilities

• Assists nurse with patient and family education.
• Documents all patient care activities provided with correct medical terminology.
• Acts as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
• Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs.
• Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nursing team.
• Collects clinical data and information on patients and reports abnormal findings to the nurse.
• Instructs patients in preparations for tests and procedures.
