Job Summary The Student Nurse Technician II plays a key support role within the nursing team, assisting with direct patient care and clinical tasks under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). This role allows nursing students to apply their classroom learning in a real-world hospital setting while building confidence and skill in preparation for future nursing practice.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment and good standing in a licensed nursing program.
  • Completion of at least two full semesters of nursing coursework and participation in clinical rotations.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (required).
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Completion of CNA checklist and active progress on Nurse Tech checklist.
  • Demonstrated understanding of patient care principles, emergency response, and safe clinical practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide basic patient care within scope, including assistance with daily living activities.
  • Support admission assessments and help develop patient care plans (co-signed by supervising RN).
  • Perform wound care and dressing changes under RN supervision.
  • Care for and maintain various drainage tubes, as competency and training allow.
  • Prepare patients for procedures (surgery preps, preps, and douches).
  • Accurately chart all care and special treatments performed.
  • Remove IVs, saline locks, and Foley catheters once competency is verified (after three supervised procedures).
  • Obtain sterile urine samples and wound cultures as directed.
  • Perform oral suction and Foley insertions once covered in nursing coursework and supervised appropriately.
  • Carry out physician orders under RN supervision.
