About The Position
Barnes-Jewish Hospital is seeking a PRN Student Nurse Tech for its Orthopedic Unit (17500), a 23-bed specialized care center. The unit provides patient-centered orthopedic care across services including foot, ankle and lower leg care; hand and wrist surgery; joint preservation, resurfacing and replacement; musculoskeletal oncology; physical medicine and rehabilitation; shoulder and elbow care; spine surgery; trauma services; and sports medicine. Its care includes limb salvage, minimally invasive procedures, complex deformity correction, trauma intervention and surgical repair. The Student Nurse Tech provides multi-skilled, direct patient care under the direction and supervision of a registered professional nurse. Completion of a foundational nursing skills course or equivalent is required; the posting specifies completion of nursing fundamentals.
Requirements
- Be enrolled in an accredited RN program.
- Complete a foundational nursing skills course or equivalent, such as fundamentals, foundations, or adult/pediatric health; the posting specifies that nursing fundamentals must be completed.

Responsibilities
- Assist the nurse with patient and family education.
- Document patient care activities using correct medical terminology.
- Act as a 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
- Ensure supplies and equipment are available to meet each patient's needs.
- Implement direct patient care under the supervision of the nursing team.
- Collect clinical data and patient information and report abnormal findings to the nurse.
- Instruct patients in preparations for tests and procedures.
