About The Position

Join Barnes-Jewish Hospital, part of BJC HealthCare, as a Student Nurse Tech (SNT) and gain valuable hands-on experience supporting patient care across a variety of inpatient units. In this role, you will work alongside experienced nurses and interdisciplinary teams, contributing to safe, compassionate care while building a strong clinical foundation for your future nursing career. Role Highlights PRN, self-scheduled role (minimum 8 hours per pay period) Flexible shift options: 7:00 AM–3:30 PM, 3:30 PM–7:30 PM, 3:00 PM–11:30 PM, 7:00 AM–7:00 PM, 7:00 PM–7:00 AM 1 holiday per year (employee-selected) and 1 weekend shift every 6 weeks Opportunity to support 65+ inpatient units and diverse patient populations Shift differentials for nights & weekends Hands-on patient care including vital signs, accuchecks, bathing, feeding, transport, and patient safety observation Collaborative environment with RNs, charge nurses, social workers, case coordinators, and unit support teams A culture of connection and recognition through BJC Connections Groups, BJC Bravo peer recognition, and the Thrive well‑being program Orientation & Training Completion of required PCT training class Initial two-week full-time commitment on days to support onboarding and skill development At BJC HealthCare, we are committed to creating a supportive environment where caregivers can learn, grow, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and the communities we serve. To provide the hospital with an additional source of Registered Nurses for use by all patient care areas within Barnes-Jewish Hospital. To provide staffing support that accommodates changes in patient census and acuity. To augment staffing needs during unscheduled ETO when other staffing options are not available. To assist in the cost effective utilization of nursing personnel to promote the delivery of quality patient care.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program
  • Completion of nursing fundamentals required
  • Completion of required PCT training class
  • Enrolled-accredited RN program
  • No Experience

Responsibilities

  • Assists nurse with patient and family education.
  • Documents all patient care activities provided with correct medical terminology.
  • Acts as 1:1 patient safety sitter as necessary.
  • Ensures availability of supplies and equipment to meet each patient's needs.
  • Implements direct patient care under the supervision of the nursing team.
  • Collects clinical data and information on patients and reports abnormal findings to the nurse.
  • Instructs patients in preparations for tests and procedures.
