Humber River Health is seeking a Student Nurse Extern to join their Alternative Level of Care (ALC) facility, specifically the Reactivation Care Centre at the Church site. The Student Nurse Extern will play a vital role in providing direct personal support to patients, assisting with daily living activities, and contributing to a high-reliability care environment.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled in years 2-4 of a nursing program.
• Current CPR certification.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Exceptional customer service skills.
• Must be a team player (works well with others).
• Ability to accurately and effectively communicate with inter-professional healthcare team members.
• Demonstrates understanding of the use of technology.
• Ability to provide basic assistive care with frequent supervision and ongoing mentoring from a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse.
• Mandatory compliance with HRH training: Privacy & Confidentiality requirements, WHMIS, Fire & Safety, hand hygiene modules.
• Excellent attendance and discipline-free record required.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct personal support to HRH patients, including basic care such as bathing, toileting, and feeding for up to 10 patients each.
• Assist in delivering meals, supporting the visitor policy, and providing laundry services for patients in the mental health setting.
• Support therapeutic programming on inpatient units under the guidance of the recreation therapist.
• Work under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses according to department policies and procedures.
• Document activities of daily living (ADLs), including intake and output, and relevant communication for patients receiving care.
• Immediately report any clinical concerns to the direct supervisor.
