About The Position

Humber River Health is seeking Student Nurse Externs to join their Medical Imaging Program. This is a temporary part-time role, with an employment duration extending to March 2027, subject to management rights. The position involves 12-hour shifts on weekdays and 8-hour shifts on weekends, also subject to change. Located at Humber River Health, Hennick Humber Hospital (Wilson Site), this role is part of the Non-Union labour group. The Student Nurse Extern is an unregulated healthcare worker who provides direct personal support to patients, including assistance with activities of daily living. They work under the supervision of Registered Nurses, assisting with patient and family needs, providing support, and escalating concerns as needed. The role does not involve performing regulated acts such as medication administration or vital signs. Immediate reporting of clinical concerns to the supervisor is required.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in years 2-4 of a nursing program of studies
  • Current CPR certification required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Must be a team player (works well with others)
  • Ability to accurately and effectively communicate with the inter-professional healthcare team members
  • Demonstrates understanding of the use of technology
  • Ability to provide basic assistive care with frequent supervision and ongoing mentoring from a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse
  • Mandatory compliance with HRH training- Privacy & Confidentiality requirements, WHMIS, Fire & Safety, hand hygiene modules
  • Excellent attendance and discipline free record required

Responsibilities
