About The Position

Humber River Health is seeking a Student Nurse Extern to join their Critical Care program. This role is an unregulated healthcare position focused on providing direct personal support to patients, including assistance with basic care such as bathing, toileting, and feeding. The Student Nurse Extern will work under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses, documenting patient activities and communicating relevant information. This position is ideal for individuals currently enrolled in years 2-4 of a nursing program who are eager to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic healthcare environment. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in years 2-4 of a nursing program of studies
  • Current CPR certification required
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Exceptional customer service skills
  • Must be a team player (works well with others)
  • Ability to accurately and effectively communicate with the inter-professional healthcare team members
  • Demonstrates understanding of the use of technology
  • Ability to provide basic assistive care with frequent supervision and ongoing mentoring from a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse
  • Mandatory compliance with HRH training- Privacy & Confidentiality requirements, WHMIS, Fire & Safety, hand hygiene modules
  • Good work attendance

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct personal support to patients with basic care needs (activities of daily living such as bathing, toileting, feeding, etc.) for up to 6 patients each.
  • Work under the supervision of Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses.
  • Document activities of daily living (ADLs), such as intake and output.
  • Communicate relevant information for patients.
  • Immediately report any clinical concerns to their direct supervisor.
