About The Position

The School of Meteorology is seeking a part-time Student Assistant for the FALL term. This role involves researching School of Meteorology news items to create informational pieces (written or filmed) highlighting the achievements of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and partners. The assistant will share these stories on the School's website and social media outlets, working closely with School IT and Academic staff. Responsibilities also include building, maintaining, and engaging with the School of Meteorology Alumni social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn). Additional duties may be assigned, such as office organization or assisting with school events, which may vary depending on the time of year.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in the FALL term as a student at the University of Oklahoma.
  • Majoring in meteorology, geography, environmental science, computer science, engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite of products and Internet.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to interact positively with students, faculty and staff, and non-university individuals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Technical ability to design or produce pieces and share them with our audience.
  • Some background in both broadcast journalism and meteorology.
  • A certain level of on-screen comfort.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficient in Adobe Acrobat, Photoshop, Premiere.
  • Proficient in social media.
  • Previous experience in broadcast and video editing.
  • Previous experience using video and still photography equipment.
  • Meteorology major or minor with sophomore status or above.

Responsibilities

  • Read, sort, and research School of Meteorology news items.
  • Write or film informational pieces highlighting achievements of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and partners.
  • Design or produce media pieces and share them with the audience.
  • Build, maintain, and engage School of Meteorology Alumni social media pages (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn).
  • Assist with other duties as assigned, which may change based on the time of year (e.g., organization of offices, assisting with school events).
