About The Position

Looking to gain hands-on laboratory experience while completing your MLT or MT program? Join the Missouri Baptist Hospital Laboratory team in a flexible PRN role designed for students. This role involves processing and preparing laboratory specimens, labeling and sorting samples, performing data entry, maintaining records, restocking supplies, cleaning work areas, and answering phones to assist with laboratory communications. The position offers valuable hands-on laboratory experience, flexibility around school schedules, and helps build skills for a future laboratory career.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an MLT, MT, or MLS program
  • Completed at least the second year of study
  • Strong attention to detail and communication skills
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • <2 years experience
  • No Supervisor Experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experienced in phlebotomy
  • Proficient in performing additional tasks such as central processing duties, in-office phlebotomy, or inventory management.
  • Associate's Degree
  • 2-5 years experience
  • Phlebotomy certification

Responsibilities

  • Process and prepare laboratory specimens
  • Label and sort samples accurately
  • Perform data entry and maintain laboratory records
  • Restock supplies and clean work areas
  • Answer phones and assist with laboratory communications
  • May perform specimen collection, specimen handling and clerical duties.
  • Interpret physician orders and order tests in appropriate system.
  • Perform phlebotomy, positive patient identification, and positive patient interaction, proper collection and specimen integrity. May work in outpatient lab, in physician office, or off campus patient service center.
  • Coordinates a simultaneous series of tasks accurately, including STAT orders and fluctuation in workload, prioritizing work to complete within scheduled hours and established turnaround times.
  • May perform registration, inventory maintenance, and other duties as assigned.
  • May sort and process specimens received by the laboratory and proficiently handle all specimens received in the lab.
