Student - Literacy/STEM Tutor - ACLAMO Mentoring & Career Development Program
About The Position
We are seeking students to work as Literacy/STEM Tutors at one of our community partner organizations, ACLAMO. ACLAMO is a Montgomery County-based nonprofit organization that provides educational programs, social services, and access to health and wellness programs to Latinos and other community members to empower them to fully achieve their life potential. Tutors in ACLAMO’s Mentoring & Career Development Program will work with elementary and/or middle school students to reinforce literacy and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) concepts, foster academic confidence, and create an engaging learning environment. Location: on site in Norristown, PA, transportation provided Hours: up to 6 hours per week
Requirements
- Eligible for Federal Work Study funding
- Strong academic background in literacy, mathematics, science, or related fields
- Ability to work effectively with children in grades 1-8
- Patience, creativity, and excellent communication skills
- Reliable, punctual, and professional
- Clear background check (required)
Nice To Haves
- Experience working with children or in educational settings
- Bilingual skills (Spanish)
Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one and/or small group tutoring in reading, writing, mathematics, and science
- Assist students with homework completion and test preparation
- Use hands-on materials and educational technology to enhance learning
- Support Lead Instructor with class activities and clubs, if needed
- Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
- Complete all tutor training and orientation, including clearances
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor to students
