About The Position

Come join the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) Traffic Engineering Division! As a student, you will gain valuable hands-on work experience, while still in college. You will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and work tasks. We offer a flexible work schedule while in school with opportunities for more hours during summer and school breaks. Traffic Engineering has two student work study positions available.

Requirements

  • Must be a three-fourths time student in good standing majoring in a discipline or field related to the work to be assigned.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong work ethic, dedication, and ability to work as a team player.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of higher education in the Transportation Engineering field.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel or Access.
  • Experience using computer aided drafting such as MicroStation or AutoCAD.
  • Experience with Synchro or similar traffic software.
  • Experience in highway and street design, traffic control signing, regulations and applications.
  • Experience related to basic data queries, analysis, and summarizing results.

Responsibilities

  • Draft highway junction plans for internal use.
  • Assist with traffic control, pavement marking and signing plans for minor design projects.
  • Assist with traffic signal control plans or other signal related activities.
  • Assist other sections of the Traffic Engineering Division as needed.
  • Assist with traffic studies performed by the Traffic Analysis Section such as data collection, collision diagrams, basic data entry, and other similar duties.
  • Research and compile data at the request of the Traffic Analysis Section for special requests.
  • Draft visual displays to assist in traffic studies.
  • Perform basic capacity analysis under the guidance of the Traffic Analysis Section.
