About The Position

Under the supervision of the Lab Director/Principal Investigator, the student intern will support a study entitled, “Stepped Care for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Study” (STEPPS) which aims to develop a stepped care treatment model for PTSD that spans primary care and psychiatry settings. The student intern will support the study in multiple ways, including recruitment of individuals with PTSD, pre-screening/scheduling, data collection through interviews, surveys, and electronic medical record data extraction, and coordination of study visits and meetings associated with conduct of a clinical trial study. The student intern will have the unique opportunity to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team across primary care and psychiatry. There will also be opportunities to collaborate on posters and papers, if interested. Students will gain exposure to a range of clinical research activities, including data collection using REDCap, administration of clinical assessments with patients and documentation in the electronic medical record, communication and collaboration with clinicians, monitoring participant engagement/progress, and administrative tasks including maintenance of regulatory documents. This is a hybrid position. The student will mostly work remotely but may occasionally work on-site to assist with in-person research activities and program coordination.

Requirements

  • Recent college graduate or student enrolled in a related graduate or undergraduate degree program, preferably beyond a second semester junior.
  • Must have the ability to perform multiple tasks and prioritize duties.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must have an interest in performing new and varied work assignments, and be flexible with regard to work assignments.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Word is required.
  • Knowledge or ability to learn Minitab.
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit and enroll individuals to participate in the study, including explaining research procedures & protocols, and obtaining informed consent of participants.
  • Identify participants with significant clinical concerns and relay this information to the Principal Investigator.
  • Schedule appointments of study participants.
  • Conduct reminder phone calls and/or sends mailouts.
  • Administer questionnaires and assist study participants in navigating through questionnaires.
  • Review the data collection forms for each participant for completion and quality.
  • Perform a variety of data management procedures (e.g., data entry, producing basic reports, data cleaning, database maintenance).
  • Provide assistance in the development of reports, grants, presentations and data analysis.
