About The Position

The Y-12 National Security Complex is currently recruiting for summer 2027 internship opportunities in Engineering (Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Fire Protection, Mechanical, Nuclear, and other Engineering Disciplines) and Science (Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, and other Science Disciplines). The Internship Program is a 10-12 week program that offers challenging assignments, projects and career development workshops to enhance your professional growth. You will also earn a competitive salary based on your discipline and academic class status. The 2027 intern program is scheduled start on May 24, 2027 and conclude on July 29, 2027. The internship position will remain open until all candidates have been identified.

Requirements

  • Working toward or have completed a degree in Engineering or a relevant Physical Science (Computer Science, Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or similar) from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET.
  • Students who have graduated are eligible up to two years post graduation.
  • Completed (at a minimum) your sophomore year in college
  • Overall GPA (grade point average) of 3.0/4.0 or above
  • United States Citizen
  • Completed online application
  • Resume and current transcript included
  • Graduation date and GPA listed on resume
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance
  • Must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10 CFR 709, if HRP is required
  • Pass a pre-placement physical, drug screening and background investigation
  • Receive and maintain a security clearance from the United States Department of Energy
  • Pass a drug screening

Nice To Haves

  • Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.
  • Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP).
