Requirements

  • Current enrolment in a secondary or post-secondary program at an accredited institution.
  • Experience with retail and food operations (applies to Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum site).
  • Knowledge of the hospitality, customer service, event industry.
  • Communication and human relations skills to interact with visitors, groups, and school programs, and participate as an effective team member.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to use a point-of-sale retail system.
  • Basic knowledge of audio-visual equipment.
  • Ability to respond to questions from the public, and orient and present to various audiences using public speaking skills.
  • Ability to support and demonstrate the Region’s values.
  • To be considered for employment as a student, a person must be: registered as a full-time secondary or post-secondary student in an accredited institution, or currently recognized as having full-time status by the academic institution but applying for a school vacation, practicum or work term, or returning to full-time studies in the next academic term. Students who are in their final year of academic study and who are not intending to return to full-time studies are eligible for student employment up until the time they convocate. Students participating in education and retraining programs at the post- secondary level, though not full-time students, are eligible for related student employment opportunities, where appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Collects admission fees from visitors and records demographic data for tracking.
  • Performs cashier duties and maintains the gift shop.
  • Performs cashier duties and maintains the food service kiosk.
  • Sets up meetings and special events by arranging chairs, tables, displays, and audio-visual equipment.
  • Orients public visitors, groups, and school programs to the museum and living history site.
  • Participates in special events and other programs.
  • Performs light housekeeping duties in public areas (e.g., theatre, food service area).
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
