About The Position

The Student Financial Services Assistant is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Student Financial Services Office, including assisting students, maintaining records, and performing administrative duties. This position reports to the Director of Student Financial Services & Registrar.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent is required.
  • Must have one year of financial aid or student accounts experience, preferably at a graduate institution.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to groups of students, spouses, parents and employees of MWU.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to interpret bar graphs.
  • The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for visitors and provide high-level administrative support to the Student Financial Services Office.
  • Answer and direct incoming phone calls, respond to inquiries, and route questions to appropriate personnel as needed.
  • Receive, sort, and distribute incoming mail; accept and sign for package deliveries.
  • Monitor general office email accounts and respond to inquiries in a timely, professional, and efficient manner.
  • Provide general information regarding financial aid and student accounts to students, spouses, parents, prospective students, and members of the campus community.
  • Assist students and visitors by answering routine questions and directing them to appropriate resources and services.
  • Scan and upload correspondence and supporting documentation into the MWUnet database, ensuring accuracy and timely record maintenance.
  • Maintain office supply inventory and coordinate the purchase of supplies as needed; process requisition orders and related billing documentation.
  • Assist with graduation-related processes, including supporting graduation clearance activities, preparing graduate documentation, and coordinating the distribution of materials to graduates.
  • Provide administrative support for SFS events and other initiatives as needed.
  • Assist with special projects, assignments, and departmental initiatives as needed.
  • Provide administrative and operational support to department staff to ensure the efficient functioning of the office.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Student Financial Services & Registrar.
  • Pro-actively identify risks and roadblocks that need to be addressed; identify and detail creative solutions, along with preliminary recommendations, to minimize the impact of these potential problems.
  • Actively participate in the annual planning process to improve operations and advance departmental objectives.
