About The Position

The Student Experience Lead is a unique role for a creative, results-oriented individual to contribute to advancing the First Nations Technology Council’s vision to increase Indigenous participation and leadership within the technology industry. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Digital Skills Development and Training, the Student Experience Lead will support Indigenous learners who are starting and/or continuing their digital skills training journeys with the Technology Council by enhancing the overall student experience by maintaining, creating, and implementing services, events, and engagements associated with the Technology Council’s student learning journey both online and in person. This role involves collaborating with a fast-paced, results-driven team and lateral departments to support student development initiatives, address student concerns, ensure a positive and safe learning environment, and orient graduates toward meaningful post-training opportunities. This position holds a key role in onboarding new students, organizing orientations, check-ins, and graduation activities, and promoting virtual and in-person activities and resources to support Indigenous learners and alums throughout their learning journeys. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of the systemic barriers that contribute to Indigenous participation in specific learning environments and the economy, specifically within the technology sector. The successful candidate will also have strong analytical and critical thinking abilities and the desire to create systems change by working with First Nation community partners and organizations to provide learning opportunities throughout the province of British Columbia. About the First Nations Technology Council: The First Nations Technology Council is an Indigenous-led, innovative non-profit mandated by First Nations leadership in British Columbia. We work to advance digital literacy, improve internet connectivity and provide guidance on data and digital technology for all 204 First Nations across the province. Requirements

  • A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, such as Indigenous Studies, Social Science (Public Administration), Business, Event Management/Planning, or Communications.
  • Strong computer proficiency, with the ability to confidently navigate and use a range of digital systems, platforms, and tools to support daily operations, program delivery, and administrative tasks.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in a project or program management role.
  • Experience working with Indigenous learners, communities and organizations with a demonstrated ability to communicate in a culturally competent and respectful manner.
  • Working knowledge of the BC technology sector, labour market, contracts and regulatory bodies.
  • Some travel within the province of BC and Canada will be required for this role.
  • Class 5 drivers license.

Responsibilities

  • Supports students in navigating their learning journey within FNTC programs as well as partnership programs outside of FNTC.
  • Provides students with recommendations for resources appropriate for Indigenous students, including but not limited to areas of mental health, disability, grief, housing, and finances.
  • Creates regular communications and digital assets (posters, newsletters, info sheets) for students during their training, including monitoring student slack channels to maintain safe and brave spaces.
  • Establishes clear, concise guidelines for communicating with students via Slack, email, phone, video conferencing, or in person.
  • Along with the Senior Manager, supports and manages the development and implementation of student feedback systems to validate student experience initiatives.
  • When required, schedule one-on-one meetings with students to address challenges impacting their learning experience. Provide professional referrals and incident reports as appropriate.
  • Builds and manages relationships with Cultural Knowledge holders in regards to in-classroom operations, and tracks student referrals to Cultural Knowledge holder support.
  • Coordinates and tracks student referrals to other Indigenous and non-Indigenous training organizations.
  • Leads development of content and structure for orientation, check-in, graduation events, and extracurricular activities for students.
  • Tracks and updates the academic standing of students within the department’s student database.
  • Reflects organizational values within response plans, including relationship-building, two-way learning, empowerment, and holistic approaches.
  • Works with the Senior Manager and Career Pathways division to ensure smooth hand-off and support for students laddering into FNTC Career Development services.
  • Support recruitment initiatives and activities to attract prospective students to apply for FNTC programs when required. This may include events like conferences, career and educational fairs, and community-led events.
  • Support student equipment shipping and handling.
  • Possesses excellent presentation and facilitation skills, with an ability to inspire Indigenous learners.
  • Possesses willingness and ability to travel into First Nation communities across British Columbia to facilitate program delivery readiness and closing activities.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
