About The Position

The Student Employee is responsible for assisting the staff in the assigned department. The Student Employee position will focus on administrative support, learning support, or specialized support while offering educational and career growth. This role involves providing excellent customer service, performing administrative duties, and supporting the department's operations. Specific duties include kitchen tasks such as serving food, maintaining the salad bar, sweeping, mopping, and washing dishes. The employee will also clean work areas and assist with catering events. The position requires the ability to work during dinner and weekend periods.

Requirements

  • High School diploma.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to make entry-level decisions.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness to ask questions.
  • Understanding of basic department procedures.
  • Ability to maintain a level of professionalism during working hours.
  • Has a genuine desire to help their peers succeed.
  • Be currently enrolled as a student at EMU.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, staff, and campus visitors.
  • Answer incoming phone calls.
  • Perform a variety of administrative and/or office duties.
  • Provide assistance and support to faculty and/or staff in completing special projects as assigned.
  • Perform general administrative responsibilities in support of the department/office/campus.
  • Complete department-specific projects as assigned.
  • Attend the workplace regularly as scheduled, report to work punctually, and follow a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite.
  • Support the values of the University.
  • Perform a variety of kitchen duties: serving food, filing salad bar area, sweeping and mopping.
  • Assist with washing dishes by hand or via machine.
  • Clean floors, work area, tables, and cabinets.
  • Assist with catering events serving high profile guests, as needed.
  • Ability to work during dinner and weekend periods.
