About The Position

Under faculty supervision, the Virtual Reality Lab Assistant supports the department’s VR equipment and faculty and student research. The student will set up and test systems, assist users, troubleshoot routine problems, organize the lab, and prepare documentation and training materials. All work must remain within the assigned training, access, and authorization.

Requirements

• Ability to follow technical, laboratory, research, information security, and documentation procedures after training.
• Ability to use established troubleshooting steps after training, keep accurate records, clearly report work status and technical problems, and refer issues beyond assigned procedures, access, or authorization to faculty.
• Ability to complete assigned tasks after training, ask faculty for clarification when needed, and follow lab procedures and authorization limits.
• Current UCM student eligible for UCM student employment and awarded Federal Work-Study.
• Coursework, experience, or enrollment in psychology, neuroscience, computing, digital media, technology, or another field related to the work.
• Experience with VR or XR systems, computer hardware or software, research labs, or similar technical work.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with VIVE, SightLab, or Vizard is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Set up, configure, and test VIVE hardware, SightLab, Vizard, and related VR systems for approved research, development, demonstrations, and training.
• Support faculty and student researchers in preparing, configuring, running, and testing VR projects.
• Complete required calibration, verification, and pre-use checks.
• Troubleshoot routine problems with hardware, software, tracking, eye-tracking, controllers, peripherals, connectivity, configuration, and system operation.
• Record technical problems, troubleshooting steps, approved changes, solutions, and unresolved issues.
• Report issues beyond assigned training, access, or authorization to the supervising faculty member.
