About The Position

As a Student Tour Guide at Eastern Mennonite University (EMU), you will play a crucial role in providing prospective students and their families with an engaging and informative campus tour experience. You will serve as an ambassador for the university, showcasing its unique features, academic programs, campus facilities, and vibrant community. This position offers an opportunity to share your personal experiences as a student, answer questions, and contribute to the university's recruitment efforts. Requirements

  • Current EMU undergraduate student with a strong passion for the university and its community.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to articulate the value of a liberal arts education and EMU's distinctive qualities.
  • Ability to engage diverse audiences and adapt communication styles accordingly.
  • Comfort with public speaking
  • Knowledge of university history, academic programs, and campus facilities.
  • Positive attitude, punctuality, and reliability.
  • High School diploma.

Responsibilities

  • Guide 1 hr tours of the EMU campus for prospective students, families, and groups 1-2 times/week.
  • Present information about campus history, academic departments, extracurricular activities, and campus life while highlighting the university's values and mission.
  • Tailor tours to the interests and preferences of individual guests, addressing their specific questions and concerns.
  • Share personal anecdotes and experiences to offer an authentic perspective of student life.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the university's academic programs, admission requirements, campus facilities, and relevant events.
  • Stay informed about ongoing campus developments and changes.
  • Effectively communicate the university's unique selling points, such as its liberal arts education, Mennonite values, diverse community, and commitment to service and social justice.
  • Attend regular training sessions to enhance tour guiding skills, learn about updates in university offerings, and improve public speaking and presentation abilities.
