Department: ICE | IGSL Ultrasound General IOP C Department's Website: Summary of Job Duties: The student employee performs quality ultrasound images for medical interpretation within the UAMS hospital and Radiology department. The sonographer will perform a wide variety of ultrasound studies in collaboration with the ordering provider and reading radiologist requests. This position requires rotational after hours/weekend and holiday call coverage. The sonographer will work closely with radiologists in order to provide needed information to make an accurate diagnosis. They will assist physicians in such procedures as renal biopsies, sonohysterograms, and lumason studies. This position requires the sonographer to join alongside the academic achievement of students, residents, and fellows.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma OR GED PLUS Completed one year of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program and be in good standing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform quality ultrasound imaging, including Abdomen, Abdomen Doppler, Elastography, Renal, Pelvic (transabdominal and transvaginal), Neonatal (head, abdomen, and spine), 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Trimester in-house ob, Scrotal, and Thyroid ultrasounds.
  • Assist in procedures including biopsies, sonohysterograms, and Lumason enhancement studies.
  • Obtains, reviews, and integrates pertinent patient history and supporting clinical data to facilitate optimal diagnostic results.
  • Explains procedures while being compassionate towards patients
  • Performs advanced tests with portable equipment in patients’ rooms when necessary.
  • Maintains sonographic and other equipment in efficient operating order; assists with preventative maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis
  • Participates in various teaching and/or learning opportunities to further his/her knowledge and assist in expanding the knowledge of others.
  • Performs additional manager or supervisor-assigned duties.
  • Other duties may be assigned to this position.
