About The Position

The Biology/Chemistry lab assistant will assist with Biology/Chemistry laboratory prep by cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment. This is a part-time student employee position within the Natural Sciences and Physical Education department, reporting to the Biology Lab Supervisor. The role involves preparing laboratory materials, maintaining equipment and supplies, and ensuring a clean and safe laboratory environment.

Requirements

Enrolled at JJC for 6 or more credit hours in the fall/spring semester.
GPA of 2.0 or above.
Complete previous coursework in Biology and/or Chemistry
Must be able to work well with others
Must be able to communicate effectively
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with other members of the college and community, displaying cultural competence as well as emotional intelligence.

Nice To Haves

English and Spanish verbal and written communication proficiency.
Demonstrated multicultural competence.

Responsibilities

Abide by Safety Procedures & Policies as detailed in the JJC Chemical Hygiene Plan
Prepare laboratory materials for all Biology and Chemistry courses.
Prepare media for Microbiology Labs, including; operating the autoclave & practicing aseptic techniques.
Maintenance of aquariums, plants, lab animals and other living specimens.
Maintenance of cadavers.
Maintenance of laboratory equipment & supplies, including; cleaning, storage & inventories.
Maintenance of classrooms and general lab clean-up.
Prepare chemical solutions. Observe proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
Work 10-20 hours per week, Monday through Friday between the hours of 8 am to 4:00 pm
Other duties as assigned.
