About The Position

The City of Minnetonka is seeking high school students, who are at least 16 years old, to serve as student election judges. This is a great way to see our democracy in action, learn about election laws and processes and serve the community through important service!

Requirements

  • Be able to work Nov. 3, 2026 and have transportation to and from assigned polling place
  • 16 years of age or older on Election Day
  • Currently enrolled in a high school or home-school in Minnesota
  • Have parent/guardian and school permission
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Be a resident of Hennepin County of an adjacent county
  • Be able to read, write and speak English
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Cannot be related to another judge in the same precinct
  • Able to complete the required online training in a timely manner
  • Reliable, accurate, positive and non-political when dealing with the public
  • Serve without a political party designation

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with the opening and closing of the polling places
  • Checking in voters on iPads, using the electronic Poll Book application
  • Issuing ballots and instructing voters on how to properly mark the ballot
  • Upholding voting laws

  • Flat rate of $20 or $40 for each required training that you complete.
