About The Position

The Student Education Assistant provides support to RIDOT’s Educational Advancement Unit, assisting in the coordination of a comprehensive in-service employee training program for a large state department. This role supports both the operational and strategic aspects of training delivery, encompassing administration, coordination, content support, and basic analytics. The work involves various tasks related to training logistics, learning management system administration, reporting, evaluation, feedback collection, communication, stakeholder support, program and project assistance, and general administrative duties.

Requirements

  • A working knowledge of educational principles and practices, teaching methods and use of visual aids as commonly applied in an in-service employee departmental training program
  • Ability to develop visual aids and other instructional material to meet training needs
  • Ability to prepare training manuals, tests, charts, or data for specific training projects or programs
  • Ability to evaluate, with the assistance of supervising personnel, the effectiveness of in-service training programs in improving employee work performance
  • Ability to prepare reports
  • Ability to communicate with groups, either orally or in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with departmental employees
  • Enrolled at an accredited college/university with specialization in Education, Communications, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or in a closely related field
  • Academic standing and GPA are judged for placement preference
  • Must attach a current resume detailing education, work experience, any community involvement, a statement of interest describing career plans, and a copy of latest unofficial college academic transcript (for full-time students)
  • If selected, applicant must provide most recent official college transcript

Responsibilities

  • Schedule instructor-led trainings (ILT) and virtual sessions
  • Reserve rooms or set up virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Teams/Zoom)
  • Manage class rosters, waitlists, and attendance tracking
  • Send calendar invites, reminders, and follow-up communications
  • Prepare training materials (print packets, name tents, sign-in sheets)
  • Upload courses and learning materials into the LMS (e.g., Workday Learning)
  • Enroll participants and manage course assignments
  • Track completions and generate enrollment/completion reports
  • Troubleshoot user access issues
  • Maintain course catalogs and training records
  • Compile training metrics (enrollments, completions, no-shows)
  • Update dashboards or spreadsheets tracking training activity
  • Assist with reporting
  • Clean and organize training data for analysis
  • Distribute post-training surveys
  • Compile and summarize participant feedback
  • Identify trends or common themes in evaluations
  • Draft training announcements and internal communications
  • Responding to employee training inquiries
  • Support training initiatives, onboarding or orientation sessions
  • Assist with special initiatives (e.g., leadership development programs, engagement surveys)
  • Help organize large training events or workshops
  • Conduct basic research on training best practices or benchmarking
  • Support rollout of new programs (communications, tracking, logistics)
  • Maintain training calendars
  • Organize shared drives and documentation
  • Create posters, videos, tutorials, QuickStart Guides, and training resources
  • Perform general clerical tasks related to training operations
