About The Position

The Student Development Specialist III position for Risk Management and Compliance in the Department of Student Community Standards supports education outreach initiatives, risk mitigation, and departmental compliance with Federal, State, and Local Laws, and University Policies. This role is responsible for ensuring departmental compliance with Federal, State, and Local laws and University Policies and Procedures. It also assists in risk mitigation and outreach educational efforts for students, and in other office initiatives, services, and projects. Tasks include serving as an investigator; assisting with office presentations and training; developing, planning, and promoting educational workshops and sanctions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years’ experience in student affairs work or related specialty area, with two years of experience in Student Affairs.

Responsibilities

  • Determines compliance, risk mitigation efforts, and educational outreach work priorities.
  • Works to ensure compliance with Clery Act responsibilities for the Department of Student Community Standards.
  • Works to ensure compliance with student records retention and destruction of records as outlined in University Rules and policies.
  • Assists in ensuring the department is in compliance with Federal, State, and Local Laws, University Policies and Procedures.
  • Ensure that staff receive appropriate training to ensure compliance with Federal, State, and Local Laws and University Policies and Procedures.
  • Serve as the department’s representative on university committees that focus on Risk Management and Compliance initiatives.
  • Conduct outreach to the student population to educate students and mitigate risk related to their behavior.
  • Stay current on trends in student conduct and new legislation, state laws, federal requirements, and national standards relating to student conduct.
  • Utilizing campus trainings and/or attending professional conferences directly affiliated with job responsibilities.
  • Conducting the investigation assigned in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate consultation efforts by contacting involved parties as appropriate, provide information regarding the investigation process, and conduct interviews.
  • Gather and secure relevant information through interviews with parties involved and witnesses, as well as other pertinent documentation.
  • Create and maintain thorough records and notes of the investigation process.
  • Provide detailed and unbiased reports of the findings of the investigation to the Director of Student Community Standards or designee in a timely manner.
  • Additionally, assist with the retention of investigation reports.
  • Initiate the initial meeting for each investigation and manage program databases and files.
  • Serves as a representative on Department, Division, and University committees and task forces, at events, and to department stakeholders as assigned.
  • Attends, presents, and actively engages in Department and Division meetings, training, and functions.
  • Interprets and participates in the development of university and departmental rules and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
