About The Position

Bow Valley College is seeking a skilled and compassionate Student Conduct Advisor to join the Student Services team. Reporting to the Manager, Accessibility and Conduct, this role plays a critical part in supporting student well-being, promoting accountability, and maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment. As the Student Conduct Advisor, you will lead the administration of student conduct and sexual violence processes, provide conflict resolution support, conduct investigations, and develop educational programming that promotes awareness of student rights and responsibilities. This role requires sound judgment, strong case management skills, and the ability to navigate complex and sensitive situations with professionalism, fairness, and care. Working closely with students, faculty, staff, and external partners, you will help ensure that concerns related to non-academic misconduct, sexual violence, and student conflict are addressed in a manner that is fair, trauma-informed, and aligned with institutional policies and legal requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, plus 2-5 years of related work experience.
  • Experience in a related setting where skills and expertise required have been demonstrated.
  • Directly related professional student affairs experience, including knowledge of development theory and conduct processes is preferred.
  • Experience related to case management, including investigations.
  • Skilled in risk assessment and intervention.
  • Understanding of restorative justice.
  • Understanding of procedural fairness and knowledge of how to implement.
  • An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Student Conduct Investigations and Case Management: Manage reports of non-academic misconduct and alleged contraventions of the College's Sexual Violence Policy, serving as the primary investigator for complex and sensitive cases. Receive and assess reports, determine appropriate policy responses, conduct interviews with complainants, respondents, and witnesses, review evidence, consult with relevant stakeholders, and prepare investigation findings and outcome documentation.
  • Apply principles of procedural fairness throughout the conduct process while exercising sound professional judgment and independent decision-making. Conduct ongoing assessments of student well-being, including mental health, suicide risk, and threat assessments when required, to support student and campus safety. Attend Student Appeal Committee hearings and remain current on emerging legal issues, case precedents, accommodation requirements, and best practices in student conduct administration.
  • Provide Conflict Resolution Support and Student Guidance: Serve as a primary resource for students, faculty, and staff seeking support in navigating conflict and behavioural concerns. Provide conflict coaching, guidance on available resolution options, and support for informal resolution processes in accordance with college policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate restorative and alternative dispute resolution approaches when appropriate and assist employees in responding to concerns through informal interventions. Connect students with appropriate on-campus and community resources to support their academic success, personal well-being, and safety, ensuring a coordinated and student-centered approach to case management.
  • Develop Educational Programming and Prevention Initiatives: Design, deliver, and evaluate educational programs that increase awareness of student conduct expectations, sexual violence prevention, conflict resolution, restorative practices, and available supports. Collaborate with departments across the College to provide training and presentations for students, faculty, and staff on relevant policies, procedures, and responsibilities.
  • Develop educational materials and outreach resources in both print and digital formats to promote understanding of student conduct processes and available services. Support policy awareness initiatives and assist with communicating policy updates and procedural changes to the College community.
  • Manage Conduct Data, Reporting, and Compliance: Maintain accurate and confidential case records in accordance with college policies, professional standards, the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), the Access to Information Act (ATIA), and records retention requirements. Manage incoming reports and related documentation, ensuring information is appropriately tracked, documented, and maintained within relevant databases and student information systems.
  • Support the collection, analysis, and reporting of student conduct and sexual violence data to identify trends, evaluate services, and inform continuous improvement initiatives. Contribute to the development of assessment and reporting processes that support effective decision-making and compliance with legislative and institutional requirements.
  • Contribute to Campus Safety and Student Success: Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to support a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment. Provide expertise and consultation on student conduct matters, contribute to institutional initiatives related to student well-being and safety, and support the broader goals of Student Services through participation in projects and initiatives as assigned.
