Family Service Toronto (FST) helps people face a wide variety of life challenges. For over 100 years, we have worked with individuals and families destabilized by precarious mental health and/or socioeconomic circumstances, to achieve greater resilience and stability in more just and supportive communities. We achieve this through our direct service work of intervention and prevention which includes counselling, peer support and education; knowledge building; and system-level work including social action, advocacy, community building and working with partners to strengthen the sector. We’re proud of our people and culture! We are constantly evolving what we do and how we do it. Our work is grounded in the lived experience of the clients and the community. We celebrate diversity, equity, inclusion, and excellence. We are agile, learning and always willing to try new things. The Options program operates within an anti-oppressive framework and is committed to building inclusive communities by working in partnership with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, and their families, friends and communities, community organizations, developmental service agencies, generic agencies, and relevant systemic and community networks. The mandate of this program is to empower children and youth with a developmental disability and their families through interventions that support person-directed, goal-oriented planning, service coordination, circles of care facilitation, self-advocacy, and peer support groups. This placement offers students a meaningful opportunity to gain hands-on experience in community engagement, program delivery, and event coordination while supporting Farsi-speaking newcomer and immigrant women. Students will work closely with program staff to assist with English Conversation Classes, peer support groups, workshops, cultural celebrations, and community outreach initiatives. Ideal for students in Social Work, Social Service Worker, Community Development, Settlement Studies, Psychology, Human Services, or related fields who are passionate about working with diverse communities and promoting inclusion, empowerment, and community connections.
