About The Position

This is a 12-month work term. New graduates are eligible to apply as long as they completed their program within one year. The start date is as soon as possible. The role is responsible for generating accurate results while following GMP requirements. The Student Chemist will analyze laboratory samples using various chemical and instrumental techniques, in accordance with established compendial and in-house testing methods, under minimum supervision.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in Post-secondary education from a recognized educational institution in Chemistry or related program.
  • Knowledge of GMP/GLP guidelines and their application to a laboratory setting.
  • Excellent ability to communicate, both verbally and in written form, in English.
  • Ability to handle multiple work assignments and priorities in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of Excel, Word and other Microsoft Office Programs and/or laboratory software packages is an asset.
  • Scientific background in laboratory analysis of solid or liquid dosage forms is recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Performs analysis of all laboratory samples including raw material, in-process, finished products, purified water, cleaning validation and stability samples using analytical instruments and established analytical procedures and techniques.
  • Performs general maintenance and calibrates lab equipment such as balance, Karl Fischer titrator, pH meter and UV according to established calibration program and GMP requirements.
  • Promptly notifies supervisor of any observations or results, which may affect the validity of data and/or reflect variability in the manufacturing process where applicable.
  • Documents and compiles all observations and data obtained from testing as per established SOPs and good documentation practices.
  • Recognises OOS or OOT results and under the direction of the Supervisor assists in the completion of lab investigations.
  • Performs calibration of laboratory equipment as required by the department's established calibration program and GMP requirements.
  • Provides technical troubleshooting support or training to other team members where appropriate.
  • Disposes of waste solvents and orders any chemicals or laboratory supplies as required.
  • Monitors QC inventories of placebos, capsule shells, system suit tubes, internal standards and impurities and re-orders inventories as needed.
  • Reviews lab chemical inventory for accuracy and removes expired chemicals as necessary.
  • Works as a member of a team to meet departmental goals.
  • Works in a safe manner collaborating as a team member to achieve all outcomes.
