About The Position

The Keys Clinic is seeking a Student Assistant for the Fall term. This role involves verifying patient insurance eligibility and coverage, reviewing benefits for scheduled services, and determining payer requirements such as prior authorization or referrals. The assistant will help with submitting and tracking authorization requests, following up on pending items, and accurately documenting all verification and authorization information in the clinic system. The position also requires identifying and escalating incomplete information and maintaining strict patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.

Requirements

  • Must be currently enrolled in the Fall Term as a student at the University of Oklahoma.
  • Hiring contingent upon verification of current student status.

  • Availability for approximately 10 hours per week (0.25 FTE).

Responsibilities

  • Verifying patient insurance eligibility and active coverage prior to appointments.
  • Reviewing available benefits for scheduled services.
  • Determining whether prior authorization, referral, or other payer requirements are needed.
  • Assisting with submission and tracking of authorization requests under staff supervision.
  • Following up on pending insurance or authorization items.
  • Accurately documenting verification and authorization information in the appropriate clinic system.
  • Identifying incomplete or unclear information and escalating issues appropriately.
  • Maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA requirements.
