About The Position

The Michigan Civil Service Commission, Bureau of Benefits Administration, Employee Service Program (ESP), is seeking a motivated and compassionate student who is detail-oriented, eager to learn, and interested in contributing to a professional and fast-paced mental health environment. This position serves as a Student Assistant, providing administrative support and assisting in the delivery of employee assistance services to state employees and their family members. The role supports the prevention and resolution of work-related and personal challenges that may affect employee performance.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in high school, vocational or technical school, or post-secondary educational institutions
  • Cannot exceed 12 9 working hours in a calendar month
  • Must be enrolled in at least six credit hours per term
  • Provide proof of enrollment at the start of each term
  • Student Assistant appointments end the month in which the student graduates or is no longer enrolled in school
  • Cannot exceed six years unless otherwise approved by Human Resources

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to respond with empathy to distressed individuals
  • Attention to detail and the ability to apply knowledge to ensure accuracy and confidentiality
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A strong interest in social work, counseling, or a related field
  • Prior experience in human services, mental health, or customer service roles preferred
