About The Position

Under direct supervision, the Professional & Career Readiness Center for Students in the College of Arts & Letters (CAL) is seeking an insightful, caring, and outgoing graduate student to assist in mentoring CAL students in career-readiness and to assist with other aspects of the Center’s work. In this role, you will support professional staff in meeting with students one-on-one in career-related mentoring appointments and work with the Center’s faculty coordinator on developing content for the Center’s website and on preparing for the annual Arts & Humanities Career and Internship Fair, along with other tasks as assigned.

  • Read and write English at a level appropriate to the position
  • Admission or registration as a CSU student
  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative
  • Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
  • International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB. (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Social Security Card

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using the Adobe Creative Cloud suite or other desktop publishing design software
  • Experience using the Microsoft Office suite and with the Google Drive suite of applications, such as Google Sheets and Google Docs
  • Enrollment in a CSUSB graduate program within the College of Arts & Letters
  • Desire to help students with their career and professional goals
  • Ability to work effectively and personably with a diverse range of students
  • Interest in learning how to mentor students on professionalization topics
  • Ability to work diligently and to take initiative on projects
  • Personal qualities: hardworking, positive, responsible, invested, outgoing, caring, reliable, and skilled at working with people
  • Maintain a 3.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and on a cumulative basis
  • Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units as a graduate student in the College of Arts & Letters at CSUSB

Responsibilities

  • Assist professional staff in meeting one-on-one with undergraduate and graduate CSUSB students to help them find internships and jobs, develop effective resumes and cover letters, prepare for interviews, apply for graduate school, and/or find scholarships, among other professionalization areas in which students may seek mentoring.
  • Greet students and others who come to the Center.
  • Assist students with getting set up for their appointment or signing up for a new appointment.
  • Communicate well with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.
  • Answer and direct phone calls and emails as needed.
  • Find postings of local and non-local internship, job, and other professionalizing opportunities for students.
  • Enter information from these postings into our Center’s calendar of opportunities for students.
  • Create and update the content of the Center’s website regularly.
  • Post content for the Center regularly to the College of Arts & Letters (CAL) social media platforms.
  • Assist with designing flyers and other promotional materials for the Center and its activities, including the annual Arts & Humanities Career and Internship Fair.
  • Take photos and video at the Center’s events, such as the annual Arts & Humanities Career and Internship Fair.
  • Assist with logistical tasks on the day (April 20, 2027) of the annual Arts & Humanities Career and Internship Fair.
  • Other tasks related to the work of the Center, as assigned.
