About The Position

The Student Assistant will provide general support and assistance to the Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars (MFOS) team. This includes assisting with scholar engagement through emails, meetings, and follow-ups, as well as supporting case management, student outreach, signature events, and social media posting. The role also involves collaborating with the Program Coordinator to organize and facilitate workshops for MFOS scholars and first-generation students, including planning, promotion, execution, and grading on Canvas. Additionally, the Student Assistant will support the tracking, management, and reporting of scholar requirements, using data to identify at-risk students and recommend resources for their success. Other duties as assigned will support program objectives.

Requirements

  • Make a two-semester commitment to MFOS
  • Be available to attend monthly in-services and training meetings throughout each semester
  • Commit to working a minimum of 15 hours a week
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Maintain a 2.0 grade point average
  • Attention to detail in composing, editing, and proofreading materials
  • Team player who can work independently to achieve a team goal

Nice To Haves

  • Empathetic and understanding approach to supporting the unique needs of first-gen, low-income, or students from underrepresented backgrounds.
  • Experience in event planning, advising, and student advocacy.
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect and build relationships with campus and external partners.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail for coordinating events, workshops, and meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general support and assistance to MFOS team with scholar engagement (emails, meetings, follow-up etc.), case management, student outreach, signature event support, social media posting etc.
  • Collaborate with the Program Coordinator to organize and facilitate workshops that address the needs of MFOS scholars and first-gen students.
  • Assist in the planning, promotion, and execution of workshops as well as workshop management (grading on Canvas).
  • Provide support in the tracking, management, and reporting of scholar requirements, utilizing data to send early warning notifications, provide alternate assignments, identify at-risk students, and recommend resources to enhance scholar success.
  • Assist the MFOS team with various tasks and projects as needed to support program objectives.
