About The Position

The Center for English Language Studies (CELS) runs program and services that support The New School's international and multilingual students and the faculty and staff who work with them. CELS seeks a reliable and motivated student to handle a variety of tasks involved in the day-to-day operations of a busy, fast-paced office. Candidates who can commit to working for at least 18 months or more are strongly preferred. Excellent writing skills are essential. This position reports to the Senior Director of Center for English Language Studies.

Requirements

  • Prior experience in an administrative position
  • Strong eye for detail; able to accurately manage large amounts of information, particularly in Google sheets
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Professional with excellent interpersonal, customer service and communication skills
  • Strong writing skills
  • Patience with students who may not be proficient in English
  • Self-motivated, proactive and able to work independently
  • Tech savvy with good command of Google docs, Microsoft Office applications, Adobe and social media
  • Experience and/or interest in design and writing for marketing materials and social media
  • Excellent writing skills are essential.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate student at the beginning of their studies
  • Experience in qualitative and quantitative survey design, analysis, and presentation
  • Skills in graphic design for marketing and presentations
  • Ability to create and/or edit videos using Adobe Premiere
  • Photography/videography skills
  • Experience maintaining database in excel or Googlesheets
  • Proficiency in a language other than English (Spanish, Mandarin, Korean preferred)
  • Candidates who can commit to working for at least 18 months or more are strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Answering email inquiries, providing excellent customer service to students, staff & faculty
  • Working closely with other university offices to troubleshoot student issues
  • Maintaining and updating digital files and databases
  • Creating digital flyers and bi-weekly newsletter
  • Drafting and scheduling regular communications to students in ESL+Certificate and Certificate in TESOL programs
  • Updating program websites and Google Sites
  • Creating content for CELS social media accounts
  • Assisting with department events, including set up and clean up when on site
  • Manages the front desk and is charged with fielding inquiries from prospective students, current students and faculty.
  • Updates webpages, writes and schedules communication campaigns, prepares a bi-weekly newsletter and social media posts, and updates spreadsheets and databases.
