About The Position

J+D seeks a student worker to help implement a community engagement strategy aimed at building a strong internal community that supports students and alums. This position supports the chair and adviser in communication, with an emphasis on job and internship opportunities for students and recent graduates. The Journalism + Design Slack is the hub of the community of students, alums, faculty, and others. Responsibilities: This role supports the chair and adviser by managing communication channels, especially sharing job and internship opportunities with students and recent graduates. The position centers on maintaining the Journalism + Design Slack community, producing newsletters and social media content, and engaging with users across platforms while tracking and analyzing performance data. Candidates should be organized, collaborative, comfortable communicating publicly, and able to work independently while meeting deadlines and supporting an inclusive community. Requirements

  • Applicants must be able to work independently under the direction of J+D faculty.
  • Candidates should be Comfortable with posting in public
  • Enthusiastic about building community

  • Experienced with publishing and messaging tools (Slack)
  • Willing to learn new publishing tools and try new things
  • Organized and collaborative with organization systems
  • Able to meet deadline and ask for help when needed
  • Available approximately 10 hours/week

Responsibilities

  • Serving as community assistant for online J+D Slack workspace
  • Provide support for student, faculty, and alum users of the J+D Slack
  • Track the Journalism + Design editorial calendar
  • publish the Journalism + Design email newsletter
  • Planning, producing, and publishing posts for Journalism + Design social media accounts
  • Responding to replies and direct messages on Instagram and other platforms
  • Experimenting with platforms where J+D has an underdeveloped presence
  • Collecting and analyzing data generated by these efforts, and suggesting changes in strategy based on that data
  • Attend a weekly check-in meeting
