About The Position

We are seeking a student employee to implement a website showcasing Journalism + Design Senior Capstone projects under the direction of the department chair and adviser. Responsibilities: The Student Assistant Specialist adapts and maintains a WordPress-based portfolio site to showcase Capstone projects across multiple semesters. They will coordinate with the chair, adviser, faculty, and graduating seniors to define site requirements, collect and organize project materials, and ensure the site's design aligns with Journalism + Design and New School style standards. The role also includes creating technical and non-technical process documentation and attending weekly check-ins with the department chair or adviser. We look forward to receiving your application! Requirements

  • Coursework or demonstrated experience in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Experience with a CMS such as WordPress.
  • Facility with Adobe visual design applications, Figma, and Slack.
  • Ability to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Consult with department chair, adviser, Capstone professors and students to refine initial requirements.
  • Adapt an instance of the Student Portfolio WordPress setup that can support new Capstone cohorts each semester.
  • Prototype the portfolio site using a small number of projects in different genres and content types.
  • Communicate to Capstone professors what information students need to submit.
  • Collect, organize, and upload capstone projects.
  • Create and maintain a consistent design and style guidelines that align with Journalism + Design and New School style guides.
  • Create documentation about technical and non-technical processes.
  • Attend a weekly check-in meeting with chair and/or adviser, or, if faculty are unavailable, communicate project status via Slack.
