About The Position

Student Ambassadors are enthusiastic and spirited Ichabods who share their love for Washburn University by serving as front-facing student representatives of the Washburn Community of Learning. Student Ambassadors support the mission and operations of the Office of Recruitment and Admissions. They are regularly the first point of contact for prospective students and families and are expected to provide a positive representation of Washburn in an engaging manner through personal connection and storytelling. Student Ambassadors perform a variety of tasks including greeting visitors, providing high-level customer service, giving campus tours, assisting in the execution of campus visits and recruitment events, communicating via phone with prospective students and families, and assisting admissions professional staff with other tasks and projects. The roles and responsibilities of Student Ambassadors are mission-critical to the successful operation of the Office of Recruitment and Admissions.

Requirements

  • Enrolled at Washburn University or Washburn Tech.
  • In good academic standing with the University.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and confidently to a diverse population of individuals and large groups.
  • Ability to navigate campus and give an effective tour in one hour or less.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a front-facing student representative of the Washburn Community of Learning and represent Washburn in a positive manner.
  • Assist in recruiting prospective students and their families.
  • Share your Washburn experience in an enthusiastic, spirited and engaging manner.
  • Make meaningful connections between a prospective student’s desired college experience and the opportunities Washburn can provide them.
  • Learn and recite Washburn history, facts, resources and helpful tips.
  • Give campus tours and assist with recruitment visit event tours that may occur in evenings and weekends over the course of each semester.
  • Assist in the execution of prospective student campus visits and recruitment events.
  • Learn and understand the Washburn recruiting and admissions process and timeline and help guide prospective students through it as needed.
  • Provide high-level customer service.
  • Learn to effectively use CRM Recruit and ERP Banner software.
  • Assist recruiters with outreach recruitment by communicating via phone with prospective students and families.
  • Process and input prospective student information.
  • Follow up with prospective students after campus tours/visits by calling the student and sending a thank-you card in the mail.
  • Attend training provided for this position.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
