About The Position

The Student Advocate fosters a program environment conducive to the academic, social, and personal development of students in grades 8-12. Our goal is to help students stay in school, graduate, and plan for their future. This role also involves embodying Le Moyne's mission-based competencies such as collaboration, communication, diversity, integrity, leadership, and service, while strengthening digital literacy and supporting cura personalis and cura apostolica. Employees are expected to maintain excellent work attendance, participate in required meetings and training, and adhere to all college policies and procedures. Continuous professional development and staying current with industry trends are also key expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • An interest in, and commitment to, academic achievement for high school students
  • An understanding of and comfort with culturally diverse populations
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability are essential

Nice To Haves

  • NYS K-12 Teaching Certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Partner individually with students through targeted mentorship to build self-direction and actionable paths toward future goals.
  • Motivating students collectively and individually to achieve academic success through encouraging, advising, and planning strategies.
  • Providing academic assistance to students including tutoring, homework assistance, and exam review in all subject areas, and assistance in standardized test preparation.
  • Encouraging student completion and reviewing of PLP’s and SEA’s to drive individual case management.
  • Handling other duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates and role-models all of Le Moyne’s mission-based competencies (collaboration, communication, diversity, integrity, leadership and service) in every interaction with all community members and external parties.
  • Strengthen digital literacy skills through education and the application of digital technologies in order to effectively engage in information gathering, utilization and data management while promoting a security culture.
  • Supports cura personalis by treating all individuals with dignity, professionalism and kindness.
  • Promotes cura apostolica by aligning professional goals, objectives, and performance with college’s strategic goals.
  • Demonstrates excellent work attendance, reliability and work ethic.
  • Attends and actively participates in required meetings and training sessions.
  • Complies and adheres to all of Le Moyne’s established policies, procedures and codes of conduct at all times, including all health and safety requirements and regulations, to promote desired behavior and build awareness.
  • Must complete all required federal, state, institution and department trainings.
  • Engages in a planned program of professional development.
  • Continually maintains skills and knowledge relative to the position and technology industry including best practice, evolving operational requirements, and industry trends.
  • Performs a variety of related duties as assigned.
