About The Position

Haven Charter High School provides students with a rigorous STEM-based Career and Technical Education, preparing them for medical certifications, college success, and career readiness. Student Advisors at Haven Charter High School (HCHS) are responsible for implementing a comprehensive advisory program that supports students’ academic progress, social-emotional development, and postsecondary readiness and upholds our Primary Person System. Under the supervision of the Director of Student Support Services, the Student Advisor is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

Requirements

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and time management skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and manage multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community services and youth development
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.W.) required
  • Minimum of two years of experience working with youth
  • Employees must be cleared to work at Haven Charter High School. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background checks and/or screenings. Department of Education (DOE) fingerprint clearance is required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for a caseload of approximately 60–75 students
  • Facilitate weekly advisory sessions using a social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum
  • Lead workshops, small groups, and targeted interventions to support student development
  • Provide informal counseling and mentorship to support students’ social-emotional well-being
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all student interactions in PowerSchool and Google Suite
  • Conduct ongoing outreach related to attendance, academics, and student well-being, including phone calls and home visits as needed
  • Collaborate with teachers to monitor academic progress and provide feedback to students
  • Connect students and families to appropriate social services and external supports
  • Track student progress toward graduation, including credit accumulation and postsecondary planning
  • Meet regularly with students and families, including supporting the enrollment process
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and program trainings
  • Provide supervision during key school times, including arrival, lunch, transitions, and dismissal
  • Support and participate in field trips, special events, and extracurricular activities
  • Contribute to additional programmatic and school-wide initiatives as needed
  • Maintain a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings, weekends, remote work, and overnight trips
