Structures Project Manager (Transportation Design Engineer IV)
About The Position
The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities across the State of Maryland. The Structures Project Manager functions as a licensed professional engineer serving as a project engineer and design engineer for structural engineering assignments of varying size and complexity. Responsibilities include performing bridge and structure inspections; reviewing inspection reports; performing structural analyses and load ratings; evaluating structural and safety concerns; developing repair recommendations; designing structural repairs; preparing plans, specifications, construction sequences, and cost estimates; reviewing consultant work; coordinating permits and other approvals; and providing technical support during construction. The current vacancy is in Baltimore, MD.
Requirements
- Possession of a Maryland Professional Engineer license, in the appropriate option, is required. Evidence of license must be presented at time of appointment.
- Two years of project management experience involving planning, coordination, and oversight of engineering, inspection, design, repair, or construction projects.
- Two years of experience conducting structural inspections, including evaluating bridges or other transportation structures, identifying deficiencies, and recommending repairs.
- Employees assigned such duties are required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
Nice To Haves
- An applicant's current license as a Professional Engineer in a state with comparable requirements acceptable to the Maryland State Board for Professional Engineers, in the appropriate option for which application is made, will be accepted but the applicant must obtain a Maryland license within twelve (12) months of appointment.
Responsibilities
- Manage a staff of professional engineers specializing in different disciplines of engineering and inspections, including proposal and invoice review
- Use the Authority Structure Inspection and Repair (ASIR) software to manage and schedule inspections
- Develop task order packages for structural repairs
- Perform inspections and evaluations of structures to identify defects and determine repairs
- Work with the Capital Program Manager to maintain familiarity with ongoing and proposed projects
- Work directly with the Operations and Construction Divisions to ensure repair and maintenance items are repaired in a timely manner
- Manage the assignment of inspection and design projects to consultants
- Perform bridge and structure inspections
- Review inspection reports
- Perform structural analyses and load ratings
- Evaluate structural and safety concerns
- Develop repair recommendations
- Design structural repairs
- Prepare plans, specifications, construction sequences, and cost estimates
- Review consultant work
- Coordinate permits and other approvals
- Provide technical support during construction
