About The Position

In the Aircraft Modifications Structures Engineer role, you will provide engineering design and certification support for the integration of structural provisions and installations supporting avionics and special missions equipment installations into general aviation, business, transport and military derivative aircraft. This role will support major alterations and Supplemental Type Certificate development managed by both the FAA and the Peregrine ODA within Metrea Aerospace Design.

Requirements

  • Four+ year engineering degree preferred.
  • 2-10 years working experience in designing/engineering the installation of aircraft equipment, ideally in a special missions modification environment.
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • USA Passport, available for domestic & international travel (occasional)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, and 2 years (required) of relevant design and installation of avionics systems.
  • SolidWorks, Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • US citizenship is required.

Responsibilities

  • Review customer requirements including Statement(s) of Work.
  • Apply engineering principles such as structural load paths, material properties, corrosion protection, electrical and thermal conductivity, noise and vibration, aerodynamic characteristics, weight and balance, electromagnetic interference, complex shapes and surfaces, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform aircraft surveys and collect required data if required.
  • Design aircraft sheet metal parts, machined parts, and honeycomb panel assemblies using SolidWorks, aircraft design standards, standard aviation hardware and industry practices.
  • Create Installation Data Package (Technical Data Package) including systems and fabrication, assembly and installation drawings, master data lists, drawings and reports.
  • Write Engineering Orders, create installation instructions.
  • Coordinate with management, other engineers and shop technicians to develop design requirements and incorporate design changes.
  • Adhere to company standards for configuration control, file management and change control.
  • Demonstrate mechanical and spatial ability interpret design information from 2D engineering drawings and 3D models with strong attention to detail.
  • Multi-task and maintain a positive attitude in a fast paced, changing environment.
  • Work independently with limited oversight but ask questions when necessary.
