About The Position

We have an exciting opportunity for an engineer with a focus on numerical modelling of ship structures (especially naval surface ships and submarines) to join our team in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Our Canadian advisory team is an established engineering research and consulting group specializing in the development and application of advanced engineering solutions for clients in the marine, public safety, and defense sectors. Formerly operating as Martec Limited, the company has been in business since 1973. Requirements

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or similar.
  • Eligibility for a Personal Security Clearance with the Canadian Industrial Security Directorate (CISD).
  • Driver’s license
  • Significant experience in structural engineering, with a focus on maritime structures/vessels.
  • Experience in the use of finite element codes and other numerical modelling tools for the analysis of structures.
  • Experience in the maritime industry
  • Experience in a consultancy environment
  • Experience with working for/with the Canadian Department of National Defense
  • Familiarity with the Lloyd’s Register Classification Rules, IMO codes, SOLAS, Transport Canada, CSA, IEC and ISO and other relevant standards used in the marine and offshore industries

Responsibilities

  • Work with a team of skilled engineers delivering innovative solutions to a range of client challenges with a focus on the maritime environment (naval, marine, and offshore)
  • Provide consultancy services at a senior specialist level in areas relating to the structural analysis of vessels using finite element software.
  • Deliver agreed upon project scope of work on time and on budget
  • Contribute to, and prepare, technical reports and scientific publications
  • Provide clear and concise communication with clients and internal/external stakeholders
  • Build relationships with internal and external clients, be hands on in assessing complex problems, and help build the business
  • Participate in proposal development and business development activities
  • Take personal responsibility for delivering own goals and targets, without requiring significant supervision
  • Pursue Continuous Professional Development while maintaining a high degree of discipline, knowledge and awareness. Manage own development, seeking opportunities for self-development.
  • Maintain registration as an Engineer-in-Training or Registered/Licensed Professional Engineer with Engineers Nova Scotia or other Canadian professional engineering association
