About The Position

Blythe Development is a licensed general contractor specializing in site work, road construction, and golf course construction in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia. We are now 100% Employee Owned! The company, founded in 1989, has operations including clearing, grading, storm drainage, sanitary sewer, waterline, curb and gutter, sidewalk, concrete paving, retaining walls, culverts, bridges, stone base, and asphalt paving. Blythe Brothers Asphalt Company provides asphalt services for Blythe Development Co. Blythe Development employs over 900 employees, enabling them to self-perform 80% of site groundwork. We are currently looking for a Structures - Bridge Superintendent to join our team across the Carolinas.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • A minimum of ten (10) years or more of bridge management related experience is required for this position, with an emphasis on major civil construction work and specializing in cast in place walls, Gravix walls, and culverts.
  • Working knowledge of standards, specifications, codes, regulations and laws.
  • Knowledge of construction techniques.
  • 8+ years bridge work experience.
  • 3 – 5 years in a supervisory position.
  • Valid Driver's License with satisfactory driving record required.
  • DOT experience required
  • Working knowledge of scheduling software.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations

Responsibilities

  • Builds project in accordance with all plans and specifications, examining blueprints to determine dimensions of structure.
  • Determines sequence of activities concerned with fabrication, assembly, and erection of structure.
  • Analyzes condition of bridge structure.
  • In concert with the Project Manager, develops a schedule of operation and effectively communicates to all employees.
  • Effectively utilizes resources, i.e. people, equipment, and materials.
  • Orders procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
  • Supervises subcontractors (if applicable) to ensure quality and schedule requirements.
  • Preplans and communicates project activities.
  • Prior to construction, reviews with Project Manager and submits comments on detail budget, time restraints, cost codes, and purchase control.
  • Reviews cost status report for accuracy and integrity. Investigates and takes corrective action in areas of indicated or potential overruns. Maintains or improves margin through well-planned and improved operations.
  • Establishes a level of quality by which all completed work is measured.
  • Responsible for day-to-day quality control of both company-performed / subcontractor work and ensures that work conforms to Contract requirements and company standards. Identifies and corrects non-conforming work expeditiously and competently.
  • Is in direct charge of safety and accident/incident control for the project. Understands, communicates and enforces safety policy on project at all times. Models safety conscious behavior for other employees to emulate.
  • Effectively motivates employees to achieve desired results.
  • Establishes positive relationships with owners, owner's reps, architects, and engineers.
