About The Position

The Space Dynamics Laboratory is seeking a Structured Cabling Technician to assist in designing, implementing, securing, and maintaining the structured cable systems in Logan, Utah. This position will require the installation of low voltage and fiber optic cable systems. SDL supports a variety of missions, including NASA's vision to reveal the unknown for the benefit of humankind and the Department of War's aim to protect our Nation on the ground, in the air, and in space. Requirements

  • High school graduate
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience installing low voltage cabling and fiber optic systems
  • Understanding and ability to implement structured cabling best practices
  • Willing to periodically perform system maintenance outside of core hours
  • Able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Working knowledge of Fluke OTDR, DSX, and other testing tools
  • Strong work ethic, ability to focus on results, and demonstrated reliability in following through on commitments and assignments
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Use of a computer running windows and software to include Visio, Bluebeam, PDF, Excel and Word

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in access controls, CCTV, intercoms, and other low-voltage applications
  • Individuals possessing current BICSI certifications including INSTI, INSTC, INSTF, or TECH
  • State of Utah Low Voltage certification/license
  • Understanding of wireless 802.11 and DAS systems
  • Some networking knowledge is a plus, to include Cisco, Dell, Juniper
  • Working well under pressure (i.e. a critical system is down)
  • Demonstrate professionalism and courtesy in all interactions
  • BICSI certified

Responsibilities

  • Performs the technical responsibilities of a Low Voltage Cable Installer and function as a member of a technical team
  • Performs overhead and underground layout of pathways and rough in
  • Terminates all types of copper cable including coaxial, multi-pair, and Cat 5e thru 6a
  • Assembles and installs equipment racks and network cabinets with all associated components
  • Performs fiber optic cable installation and terminations of all types
  • Performs structured cabling installations in new and existing facilities following diagrams, schematics, or blueprints a plus
  • Understands and effectively explains every aspect of the structured cabling system including pathways, spaces, horizontal cabling, backbone copper, backbone fiber optic, cross and inter-connections, and testing
  • Troubleshoots, repairs, adjusts, and resolves problems in structured cabling systems and technical issues
  • Performs other duties as needed
  • Follows industry and company best practices
  • Safely uses ladders and bucket lifts as needed
