About The Position

At the direction of the Senior Audio Video Specialist, this role installs, tests, and troubleshoots communication network cabling, surveillance cameras, and other equipment. The technician also assists Network Administrators in network maintenance and equipment deployment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and at least 24 college credit hours or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid State of Texas Class C Driver’s License.
  • Installation, termination, troubleshooting, and testing of ethernet and fiber-optic cabling systems.
  • Ability to differentiate colors for the purpose of cable terminations.
  • Ability to climb ladders and operate lifts to work at heights up to 60 feet.
  • Ability to work independently on projects with minimal supervision or as part of a team as needed.
  • Ability to organize workload; establish priorities; and meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to prepare clear, concise and complete reports, correspondence and other written materials.
  • Ability to anticipate, identify and effectively resolve various issues and problems.
  • Ability to provide management with sound, constructive advice and information concerning job tasks.
  • Ability to comply with all County and departmental policies and procedures and meet attendance and punctuality guidelines.
  • Ability to be constantly alert and aware of the hazards involved and follow the safety practices and principles in reporting and preventing accidents.
  • Ability to multitask and work in an environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and cooperative working relationships with all levels of County staff.

Nice To Haves

  • BA or BS in Computer Science, Comp Engr., MIS or related field.
  • Five years of experience in installing communications cabling.
  • BICSI Installer 1 certification, BICSI Technician

Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot Category 3, 6, and 6a copper cables; single-mode fiber optic cable; and multi-mode fiber optic cable while coordinating with various departments to complete tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Install, test, and assist in configuring IP-based surveillance cameras, physical access control devices, projection/display systems and other equipment as required.
  • Attend training seminars, read on-line news releases and professional periodicals, and meet with vendors to keep up with technological advancements in the industry, current standards.
  • Work with outside contractors to install and terminate aerial and underground cable installations.
  • Assist Network services with network maintenance and with configuration/deployment of equipment.
  • Monitor 811 request and audits to include conducting DIG-TESS and documenting as required.
  • May be on-call and some overtime and/or weekend/holiday work may be required.
