About The Position

Gulf Marine Repair of Tampa, FL is looking to hire full-time Structural Welders for their shipyard. This role involves performing various welding processes and passing specific weld tests. The company offers a range of benefits and is committed to a quick and easy application process.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three (3) years of SHIPYARD WELDING experience.
  • Must pass all three (4) positions - Vertical, Horizontal, and Overhead - flux core, stick Air Arc welding.
  • Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
  • Must pass an open-root weld test on a 3/8" plate with a 1/8" gap for both SMAW (1/8" 7018 rods) and FCAW (flux-core) processes.
  • Must have proper equipment for testing: Chipping Hammer, Gloves, 4" Grinder, Hood, Safety Glasses, Steel-toed Boots, Welding Stinger (Whip - 5/8" quick connect end), Wire Brush and Wire Pliers.
  • Non-flammable arms and upper body coverage attire (leathers, denim jacket, long sleeve shirt) is required.
  • FCAW Welding Process knowledge.
  • SMAW Welding Process knowledge.
  • Arc Gouging knowledge.
  • Pass weld tests as results determine employability.

Responsibilities

  • Pass all three (4) positions - Vertical, Horizontal, and Overhead - flux core, stick Air Arc welding.
  • Obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
  • Complete an open-root weld test on a 3/8" plate with a 1/8" gap for both SMAW (1/8" 7018 rods) and FCAW (flux-core) processes.
  • Perform tack welding.
  • Mount coupons to the welding test booth jig.
  • Run root pass, filler pass, and cap pass according to specified procedures.
  • Back-gouge test plates.
  • Clean up slag using only a wire wheel.
  • Re-mount coupons for capping.
  • Ensure welds meet standards for root pass, filler pass, and cap pass, avoiding porosity, slag inclusion, undercut, or lack of penetration.
  • Maintain a continuous weld puddle without whipping the electrode (SMAW) or using a "popping" action (FCAW) during the root pass.
  • Not weave the cap pass.
  • Follow instructions for weld testing procedures and requirements.
