About The Position

Sea Hawk Maritime is a water construction company seeking an experienced Structural Welder to perform continuous maintenance on vessels and equipment. The role involves structural repairs and new construction of tugboats, dredges, barges, and other support vessels. This position requires the ability to weld all metals, including aluminum, and to think outside the box. You will be responsible for welding newly installed structural members and plating, welding re-installed temporary access openings, repairing deteriorated plating, and repairing defective welds. Additionally, you will weld outfitting items such as electrical cableways, brackets, watertight hatches/doors, and aircraft tie-down fittings. Strict adherence to safety, health, and environmental policies is mandatory.

Requirements

Experienced welder with the ability to weld all metals including aluminum.
Ability to think outside the box.
Ability to use hand-welding and flame cutting equipment, such as gas welding and stick.
Ability to regulate current and voltage for proper fusion of metals.
Ability to select electrode type and size.
Ability to read and utilize welding procedures and welding symbols.
Ability to safely and efficiently use an oxy-fuel torch to apply pre-heat to materials prior to welding.
Ability to safely and efficiently use carbon arc air gouging equipment to gouge welds.
Ability to safely and efficiently use electric and pneumatic grinders to prepare materials for welding, as well as to clean and contour finished welds.
Ability to use measuring tools and gauges to verify dimensions of weld joints in accordance with approved joint designs.
Ability to use weld gauges to verify weld size and quality in accordance with specifications.
Ability to utilize ceramic backing in the flat, horizontal, and vertical positions with the semi-automatic welding processes.
Ability to pass groove-weld qualification tests in all positions for multiple materials and processes, such as Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) of high strength steel and stainless steel, as well as Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW) of aluminum.
Must be motivated.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
