Requirements

Minimum of three (3) years of SHIPYARD WELDING experience.
Must pass all three (4) positions - Vertical, Horizontal, and Overhead - flux core, stick Air Arc welding.
Must be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
Must have proper equipment for weld test: Chipping Hammer, Gloves, 4" Grinder, Hood, Safety Glasses, Steel-toed Boots, Welding Stinger (Whip - 5/8" quick connect end), Wire Brush and Wire Pliers.
Non-flammable arms and upper body coverage attire (leathers, denim jacket, long sleeve shirt) is required.
Must pass the weld test which includes root pass, filler pass, cap pass, and back-gouge.
Must maintain a continuous weld puddle during the root pass without whipping the electrode (SMAW) or using the "popping" action (FCAW).
Must not weave the cap pass.
Must only use wire wheel for cleaning inside of back-gouge.

Responsibilities

Perform open root welding tests in vertical, horizontal, and overhead positions using flux core and stick welding.
Obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
Complete an open-root weld test on 3/8" plate with a 1/8" gap for SMAW (1/8" 7018 rods) and FCAW (flux-core) processes.
Tack backing tabs onto plates and apply weldment to ensure coupons do not separate.
Mount coupons to the welding test booth jig and perform root pass, filler pass, and cap pass.
Back-gouge test plates and clean up slag.
Demonstrate proficiency in FCAW Welding Process, SMAW Welding Process, and Arc Gouging.
