About The Position

AST SpaceMobile is building the first and only global cellular broadband network in space to operate directly with standard, unmodified mobile devices based on our extensive IP and patent portfolio and designed for both commercial and government applications. Our engineers and space scientists are on a mission to eliminate the connectivity gaps faced by today’s five billion mobile subscribers and finally bring broadband to the billions who remain unconnected. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Structural Mechanic to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in structural repair and maintenance, with a keen eye for detail and a commitment to safety and quality. This position is based in our satellite production facility in Midland, TX, with full relocation provided (details below).

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a structural mechanic in aerospace.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and manuals.
  • Strong knowledge of materials, tools, and techniques used in structural repair and maintenance.
  • Specific skills in riveting, drilling, and fastener installation
  • Surface Prep for Bonding
  • Incremental drilling for hold size for
  • Mechanical Assembly and Torque Specifications
  • Clear understanding and demonstration of: Screws, Rivets, Wet Bonding
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Laser tracking and Metrology a plus
  • Knowledge of different types of rivets, including solid rivets, blind rivets, Hi-Lock and Hi-Lite, cherry max rivets, and their installation requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural assembly, repair and modifications of Telecommunication Satellites, structures or other structures as required to drawing specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and manuals to determine repair and modification requirements.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring instruments to complete tasks accurately.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure it meets quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with engineers and other team members to resolve technical issues and improve processes.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe working environment.
