About The Position

The Structural Steel Welder is responsible for fabricating and welding structural and miscellaneous steel components in accordance with shop drawings, welding procedures, AWS requirements, and AISC standards. This position primarily utilizes MIG welding processes to produce high-quality welds that meet company and customer specifications. All welders, regardless of previous training or experience, are required to successfully complete Macuch Steel's in-house welding qualification program. Welders must demonstrate proficiency and earn certification through AWS-based testing, including a fillet weld test, 3/8-inch weld test, and 1-inch weld test.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain and maintain AWS welding qualifications through the company's certification program.
  • Proficiency with oxy-fuel cutting torches.
  • Strong knowledge of welding techniques, welding symbols, fabrication processes, and structural steel components.
  • Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and welding specifications.
  • Understanding of quality control standards and safe work practices.
  • Ability to pass overhead crane operator training and certification.
  • Effective verbal communication, basic writing skills, and mathematical aptitude.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Ability to comply with all company safety and attendance requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of three (3) years of structural steel welding experience preferred; other welding experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Perform MIG welding on structural and miscellaneous steel components according to shop drawings and approved welding procedures.
  • Read, interpret, and follow fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and work instructions.
  • Assemble and weld structural steel members, including beams, channels, angles, plates, and miscellaneous steel components.
  • Operate oxy-fuel cutting torches and other fabrication equipment as required.
  • Inspect completed welds to ensure compliance with quality standards and project specifications.
  • Maintain a safe and organized work area.
  • Follow all company safety policies, welding procedures, and quality control requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with fitters, fabricators, supervisors, and quality personnel to meet production schedules.
