About The Position

We are seeking a Structural Steel Shop Supervisor to lead daily fabrication operations in a busy manufacturing environment. This hands-on leadership role is responsible for coordinating shop activities, supporting production employees, and helping ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and according to quality standards. The ideal candidate has experience supervising structural steel fabrication teams and is comfortable managing workflow, solving production challenges, and keeping projects on schedule.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience leading or supervising employees in a structural steel fabrication shop.
  • Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication, welding, fit-up, and layout procedures.
  • Experience working with or operating CNC fabrication equipment and other shop machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and production documentation.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing safety practices, quality control standards, and production scheduling.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, weekends, or adjusted schedules when production needs require.

Responsibilities

  • Direct daily shop operations to meet production goals and delivery schedules.
  • Supervise and support welders, fitters, and other fabrication team members.
  • Assign work based on production priorities, staffing, and available equipment.
  • Provide guidance on welding, fit-up, layout, and blueprint interpretation.
  • Troubleshoot production issues and implement solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Monitor production progress and communicate schedule updates or workflow concerns.
  • Enforce safety procedures, quality standards, and shop policies.
  • Coordinate with maintenance personnel to reduce equipment downtime and keep production running efficiently.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe fabrication facility.
  • Assist with onboarding, employee training, and ongoing skills development.
  • Work closely with Quality Control to verify completed work meets specifications.
  • Support dimensional inspections, production records, and fabrication documentation.
  • Perform other shop leadership responsibilities as assigned.
